My original chiropractor explained chiropractic philosophy to me.
Theology is the structured belief system in a way of life that offers some eternal reward.
Philosophy uses reason to form a rational explanation and justification for beliefs.
Philosophy recognises the existence of a Universal Intelligence, overseeing the orderly management of its guesstimated 21,600,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 planets in the universe.
Acknowledging a Universal Intelligence is not about going to church or an afterlife. Chiropractic philosophy has no connection to religion or denomination.
Though not a practicing Jew, Einstein described his belief as, “The scientist’s religious feeling takes the form of a rapturous amazement at the harmony of natural law, which reveals an intelligence of such superiority that, compared with it, all the systematic thinking and acting of human beings is an utterly insignificant reflection. ”
The person who does not recognise a Universal Intelligence cannot share those ‘religious feelings’ nor experience that same ‘rapturous amazement’. A cost of mechanistic thinking is to exist intellectually in an utterly bewildering void of evolving coincidences.
As a chiropractic student, my teachers explained that a Universal Intelligence is in all matter, continually giving to it all its properties and actions, thus maintaining it in existence. There is a presence of intelligence (an organizing force) in both the universe and where life exists in all living things.
The expression of this intelligence through matter is the chiropractic meaning of life. A living thing has an inborn intelligence within its body, called Innate Intelligence. The function of Innate Intelligence is to adapt universal forces and matter for use in the body so that all parts of the body will have coordinated action for mutual benefit.
In animal bodies, the forces of Innate Intelligence operate through or over the nervous system. There can be interference with the transmission of Innate Forces.
I see my role as being one of locating and adjusting subluxations to assist Innate Intelligence to adapt universal forces and matter for use in the body so that all parts of the body will have coordinated action for mutual benefit. As a privileged facilitator, I work with the power that both made the body and where possible heals the body. For me, that remains a daily amazing, exciting, integral part of being a chiropractor.
